shadcn/ui and its alternatives in 2026: 10 UI libraries compared, prices and AI support included
I make one of the libraries on this list (Tactile UI), so read this knowing that. I went through the UI libraries people actually reach for in 2026 and put the facts side by side: what each one is, what it needs, what it costs, and whether your coding agent can use it. Everything was checked on 3 November 2026 on each project's own site, docs, pricing page and GitHub. Where a page didn't say something, the table says unknown instead of guessing. If something here is wrong, email me and I'll fix it.
The short version
- You want free building blocks you own and restyle: shadcn/ui. It's the default for a reason, and Magic UI, Aceternity and React Bits all install through its CLI now.
- You want motion and landing-page effects: Magic UI, Aceternity UI or React Bits. All three are React, and all three have a free tier and a one-time paid tier.
- You don't use React, or you don't want a build step: daisyUI (pure CSS on Tailwind) or Flowbite (Tailwind plus vanilla JS). Tactile is in this group too.
- You want interfaces that behave like objects: that's the gap Tactile fills. More on it at the end, kept separate so it doesn't colour the table.

Can your agent use it?
This changed fast this year. Almost everyone now has an MCP server or installs through the shadcn registry, so Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can pull components straight in.
| Library | MCP server | Install route for agents |
|---|---|---|
| shadcn/ui | Yes, official | shadcn CLI and registries |
| Magic UI | Yes, official | shadcn CLI |
| Aceternity UI | Through the shadcn MCP | shadcn CLI |
| React Bits | Yes | shadcn CLI or jsrepo |
| coss ui | Not found | Copy and paste |
| Chakra UI | Yes, official | npm |
| daisyUI | Yes, but paid (Blueprint) | Tailwind plugin |
| Flowbite | Yes, official | npm |
| Tailwind Plus | Unknown | Unknown |
| Tactile UI | Yes, tactileui.dev/mcp, also in Claude's connector directory | Copy, or the agent fetches the piece |
What actually differs
Framework. Seven of the ten are React only. If you're on Vue, Svelte, Astro or a plain page, your real choices are daisyUI, Flowbite and Tactile.
Who owns the code. shadcn/ui, Magic UI, Aceternity, React Bits and coss ui all copy the source into your project. Chakra is a package you install and update. daisyUI and Flowbite are Tailwind plugins.
Paying once or paying again. Every paid tier here is a one-time payment, except daisyUI's MCP server (monthly or $600 lifetime) and Aceternity's cheaper tier, which stops updates after a year.
Motion. Magic UI and Aceternity use Motion (Framer Motion). React Bits mixes GSAP, Motion, three.js and ogl depending on the piece. daisyUI has no JavaScript at all.
Tailwind Plus is closed to new customers. Tailwind Labs said so on 9 September, and its pages now send logged-out visitors to a login. If you were planning on it, daisyUI and Flowbite are the Tailwind-based kits still selling.
Where Tactile fits
Tactile is different in kind, so I'm not going to pretend it competes on the same axis. The other nine give you buttons, cards and effects. Tactile gives you UI that behaves like a real object: an odometer whose digits carry like the real thing, a Chladni plate where sand settles on the still lines, a pin screen you press a word into. Next to those there's a plain UI kit (210 parts: buttons, forms, tables, menus) and 55 website blocks, all in the same machined look.
Each piece is one ES module and one stylesheet, with no framework, no build step and no dependencies, plus React, Vue and Svelte wrappers. 62 pieces are free with no card. The Founder Pass is $99 once for everything, until 31 December or the first 50 seats, then $129.
What it doesn't have: a big community. It launched on 27 October 2026 and one person makes it (me). If you need a huge ecosystem today, shadcn/ui is the safer pick, and you can still drop a Tactile object into a shadcn project.

One post per pair, with the same rules: Magic UI vs Aceternity, React Bits vs shadcn/ui, daisyUI vs Flowbite, and Tactile against each of them.
