# Free and paid

Three kinds of piece, three sets of rights. Each piece's page says which it is.

| Kind | Which pieces | You need | You may |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Open source (MIT) | The [Odometer](/objects/odometer), [Compass](/objects/compass), [Pull-cord Bulb](/objects/pull-cord), [Engraved Client Plates](/blocks/client-plates), [Machined Footer](/blocks/machined-footer) and [FAQ Index](/blocks/faq-drawer) ([/r/free/registry.json](/r/free/registry.json)), and the [Tactile Modernism](https://github.com/cipriantitire/tactile-modernism) skill | Nothing | Copy, change, ship and pass them on, under the MIT licence. |
| Free with an account | Cloth-lit Cubes, the everyday kit parts and a template ([Free to use](/c/free) lists them) | A free account, Google or GitHub | Use them in your own and client projects, under the [licence](/licence). Not pass them on as a kit, a library or a template. |
| With a Pass | Everything else | A Pass (the Founder Pass also opens the kit) | Build them into anything you make, for yourself or clients, and use them with AI coding tools, under the [licence](/licence). Not pass them on as a kit, a library, a template or a dataset. |

A piece that carries its own licence keeps it wherever it ships. The MIT Odometer inside a block built on it, in a Pass package, is still MIT.

What a Pass covers, and for how long, is in [Updates](/docs/updates); the refund rule is in [Refunds and receipts](/docs/refunds-and-receipts).
